Education

We work with learner, schools, referring organisations and homes to make sure that the choice of course and qualification is right for the learner; supported through a clear referral process, trial sessions and initial assessment, each learner at MAP has access to a range of qualifications and units to suit their learning requirements.

“MAP Charity makes a massive difference to the lives of many young people growing up in Leeds. Over the last decade, they’ve been at the heart of a growing community in Mabgate and have created opportunities for young people to gain new skills in creative industries, funded sustainably through the development of a wonderful creative space. Their model is an inspiring example of the power of culture and enterprise to fuel a neighbourhood and city’s growth, and we look forward to working with MAP as they continue this journey".

Art & Design

An exciting selection of activities and areas of study, ranging from garment printing and Photoshop through to more traditional techniques like oil painting, modelling and watercolour.

Digital Media & Music

A wide range of opportunities in music production and digital media. Learners will create animations, short films,
digital marketing material through Photoshop and develop skills in DJing and Ibis Paint.

Maths & English

Our maths and English course builds on examples that are already found within the creative activities undertaken at MAP, providing a practical way for learners to relate to the maths and English activities that they sometimes struggle with. We give learners one to one support in working through a GCSE study and revision programme, or a functional skills programme - both of which use a range of computer based, paper based, and practical activities.

"MAP has supported us with some of our most disengaged pupils and I have seen some real successes at MAP with the pupils that I have referred and supported. Pupils have developed their confidence, social skills and better engagement with education and learning."

"I can confidently say that you were the most successful provision, with two others unable to meet his needs or settle him into a pattern of engagement. His courses at MAP have set him up for Post 16 and his ability to find the headspace and focus on core subjects has enabled him to forge himself a pathway into an appropriate college course."

MAP Education Graduates

In school there’s more going on… so you get distracted easily, but in MAP, it’s smaller. When we’ve got an issue or a problem they’re there for you, and they know what you’re about. It’s a good vibe, and everyone gets along… It’s helped me to figure out what I have to do in life, and what not to do in life… After MAP, I’m going to go back to school.

Kenny, MAP graduate

MAP changed my life. I cannot stress that enough. I don’t know where I would have ended up if it wasn’t for this place. The best schools send their kids to MAP. I’m grateful to my school for making the right choice for me.

When I’m at MAP, I feel safe and I know that when I am struggling, staff will help me. Before I came to MAP I would always get into trouble. Even school can see the difference and I can cope there for longer. I know now how important my education isand I’m trying harder to do better.

As well as the education programme, MAP Education also carries out a wide range of arts and music activities with professional and developing artists, creatives and university learners. These other activities are of considerable value to the education programme as they offer the leaners a unique experience that raises aspirations and highlights options for progression.

A number of graduates from the MAP 11-16 Education programme have returned to MAP Education as volunteers, and for apprenticeships, demonstrating the positive impact of their experiences here.
